‘Bomb cyclone’ will unleash Arctic epidemic and disrupt holiday travel

The potential exists for travel disruptions at major airport hubs in the Midwest and Great Lakes. More than 110 million Americans are expected to take to the roads and air this holiday season. The anticipated storm system will sprawl close to 1,000 miles across the eastern U.S. The storm will drag a historically cold December air mass over much of the Lower 48. More than 30 million people are under wind chill alerts from the Rockies to the nation’s midsection. The cyclone will first form over the High Plains of Colorado, Oklahoma and New Mexico on Wednesday.
