Why Donald Trump’s 2022 defeat to Herschel Walker could be his most embarrassing

Walker trails Sen. Raphael G. Warnock (D-Ga.) by nearly three points, up from one-point deficit on Election Day. Walker underperformed every other statewide GOP candidate in Georgia in the November general election. The former football star suffered among conservatives in the Atlanta area where he wasn’t on the ballot. Walker’s margin of victory over Kemp was perhaps the most pronounced gap between a Trump-backed candidate’s performance and their ticket-mates. Some states did feature bigger gaps, but none by as much as Walker’s. There is a credible argument that Walker wasn’t the worst candidate, or the most costly one imposed by Trump on his party.
