‘We won that,’ Shelby said after defeating Trump, the FBI, and ethics committees

Alabama Sen. Richard Shelby has served in the Senate for 36 years and eight years in the House for 16 as a Democrat, 28 as a Republican. Shelby’s career is a rebuke to two trends in today’s Senate: those who rush to social media and those who do little more than follow party leaders’ orders. Shelby believes his popularity comes from understanding that voters still value a “senator of consequence”. He joined a class of rising stars that included then-Reps. Dick Cheney, Newt Gingrich and John McCain.
