DEA says it has seized 379 million doses of fentanyl in the past year. That’s enough to provide a lethal dose for every American, agency says. Much of this fentanyl is in the form of fake prescription pills. DEA provided a senior laboratory official to explain how such numbers are calculated. DEA says it seized more than 10,000 pounds of fentanyl powder in fiscal 2022.
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid 50 times more powerful than heroin. The DEA estimates that about 2 milligrams of pure fentanyl is lethal.
