Kyrsten Sinema’s decision to become an independent makes plenty of sense for her. The question is what will happen if she runs for reelection as an independent. Will national Democrats back her? Or will they line up behind a Democratic nominee more in line with the base? In Connecticut and Alaska, the national party backed candidates who lost their party’s primaries.
In Connecticut, Democratic leaders issued statements backing Ned Lamont after he beat Joe Lieberman in a primary. In Alaska, national Republicans backed GOP nominee Joe Miller over Lisa Murkowski’s write-in bid.
