House votes to take the Dred Scott decision’s author’s bust down from the Capitol

Measure would remove a bust at the Capitol of Roger B. Taney, author of Dred Scott v. Sandford, was chief justice of the Supreme Court. If signed into law, committee would replace bust with one of Thurgood Marshall. Measure heads to President Biden for his signature. The House votes to remove Chief Justice Roger Brooke Taney’s bust from the Capitol. The Dred Scott decision declared that African Americans could never be citizens of the United States. Rep. Zoe Lofgren says the bill is about “who we put on a pedestal”.
