Opinion I’ve seen the unannounced casualties of the Ukraine war

Yehhor Firsov: Abandoned animals roam the streets of front-line towns and villages leveled by Russian assault. Most of these animals, and there are hundreds, even thousands, of them, are former pets. In many places, they outnumber any remaining human residents. In Bakhmut and Avdiivka, you’ll find scores of wandering cats and dogs. Even Pokrovsk, 25 miles from the front lines, is overflowing with homeless cats. There will be more and more kittens and puppies, because many are not fixed and continue to breed.
