Ruben Navarrette: Are we in a recession? Does it even matter? The economy contracted at an annualized pace of 0.9 percent in the second quarter, following a decrease of 1.6 percent in first quarter. Biden administration has spent a lot of energy trying to manage perceptions of the economy, he says. He says inflation was certainly a major contributor, and it is now probably the biggest factor in Biden’s catastrophically low ratings. But it is probably unreasonable to spend much time arguing about them, he writes, since people aren’t worried about losing their jobs right now.
