Opinion Don’t forget the Afghan refugees who need America’s support

Ruben Navarrette: Too many Afghan evacuees have been left without adequate support in U.S. or spurned altogether. He says Biden administration has established a sponsorship program to help admit and support Ukrainian refugees. Congress could help but has not moved to grant a path to citizenship for Afghan refugees, he says. He asks: Why can’t the administration stand up a program for individuals and groups to sponsor Afghan refugees to come here, as it has done for Ukrainians? Navarrettrettrettes: Many Afghan refugees are as qualified as the refugees admitted en masse last summer, as well as those who helped our troops and risked their lives doing so.
