For the time being, Brazil’s mob has helped the new administration.

On Sunday, an angry mob overran the Brazilian capital, Brasilia. They defied police, attacked the media and trashed the modernist palaces. For months, political pundits, security wonks had warned of the gathering fury. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has called for an emergency meeting of all 27 state governors. The country’s financial markets barely flinched, with the Ibovespa index gaining slightly. A review of 2.2 million social media posts showed 90 percent of Brazilians rejected the attacks.
