Washington Hebrew Congregation will settle a lawsuit involving child safety rules for $950,000.

The Washington Hebrew Congregation will pay nearly $1 million to the city and families. A judge ruled the congregation violated child safety regulations while operating its preschool. The settlement ends proceedings in a 2020 lawsuit filed by D.C. Attorney General Karl A. Racine. The Washington Hebrew Congregation will pay $550,000 to the District of Columbia.

An additional $300,000 will be paid to families who enrolled their children in the congregation’s summer child-care program. D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine calls the situation “every parent’s worst nightmare”.
