Obtaining increases, the D.C. teachers union supports the labor agreement.

Members of D.C.’s teachers union approve a new labor contract. The deal secures raises and other benefits for 5,500 public school teachers. Contract outlines a 12 percent salary raise over four years. Senior teachers’ starting pay will increase from $56,313 to more than $63,300. The contract will last through 2023.

It includes a 4 percent bonus for every teacher and larger stipends for educators to buy supplies. Nearly half of teachers surveyed said they were unhappy with their jobs, and nearly half said they’d leave their jobs in the next few years.
